Mountains of Doom!

After a good week of social fun with friends and family (and paying my bills) but it’s back to work in full force this week!
I’ve started on the exterior sets with a couple of paper mache mountains waiting to be painted as soon as they dry. It was again trial and error with crappy wire and play-doh, but I soon realized the winner of the battle was aluminum foil and copies of the NOW, resulting in large, white, turdy mountains that I can’t wait to detail.

ALSO!!! Artist Errol Stussi has been hard at work on a background for me that we intend to green-screen like an early 90’s backdrop, here’s a sample of what he gave me and a link to his awesome work!http://stussierrol.blogspot.ca/

Monster Completion and Size difference!

So it's finished! The beast named "Gultch" has been completed 100% and is ready for filming action. The mouth has turned out better than I hoped. Each tooth has been individually cut out and pasted in, with added pen details for highlights. It looks pretty bad ass in my opinion.

The tentacle (which is now no tentacle at all, but the monster's tail), has also been glued up and detailed with marker. I had rewritten the script, and it no longer has any tentacle action, but since it looked so cool I decided to keep the appendage in the picture and made it a tail instead.

Size Comparison
Tonight I'll be testing the puppets on-screen to see if my work is coming together. I'm getting a better idea of how I want everything to look, and I'm starting to narrow down the voices I will be doing for both heroes. I've also started working on sets, which will be updated as soon as I can get a handle on how to place everything.

It's all going to work out, I can feel it!

Mouth Madness

So I tried a mouth prototype that didn't work out today. A mouth with moving parts on a weak base just went all weird and flimsy so I had decided at the last moment of my work to make the monster's mouth normal.
I cut each individual tooth out and glued it, when that drys I'll do some details and be done with the beast.

Also a large tentacle has been constructed but I'm still unsure if I want to use it. A lot of work and hours seems to go into these but in the end this will probably be a 2 minute short, that length is also debatable, something I seem to be coming to terms with. The more work for a short outcome, makes you appreciate the effort and time put into massive projects.

Cheers

No post because of Fun Time!

No real update on the work tonight except that I'm seeing Gogol Bordello and Mariachi El Bronx tonight!
So cheers!

Gultch Detailed

GLUTCH DETAILED

Added details to The Gultch (the mouth is still in progress). I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how to make the mouth move. I'll have to create some depth too, so a false mouth behind a 1980's-style rubber monster is what I'm feeling right now. The project's coming along pretty nicely though. Time for a beer!

Monster Made

The Gultch: A beast from the deep who has never before been defeated.
Well,  this is the prototype before any details added , We'll see what the final product looks like by monday, should be done!

Not a big fan of the photo, my phone cams a little weak.

Script is done however! So that's good.
